Scooter’s trip to the Mississippi River Dog Park

by PamOBrien on June 22, 2008
"Scooter (Boots, Bootsy Boy!)
We realized that Scooters name meant, “You better have your guard up at all times because this dog can scoot!… and fast!” Our trip to the Mississippi River Dog Park was the true test to see if he cared to just run away or enjoy the walk with humans.

Off the leash he ran and I thought if he ever came back, it would be a miracle. After about 5 minutes he came back to the group of schnauzers. He was wondering why no one was chasing him. After several times at the off-leash-park Scooter learned he better keep us in his sight because we are not going to run after him, call him, or try to lure him to us. He loves to run and play with the other dogs and his non-stop barking is to a minimum of a few barks to greet another dog.

Scooter has become quite the cuddler too. Afraid of being scolded for playing with toys, getting up on the furniture, and just being a dog, he finally is able to relax. Men are not such a problem anymore and he is doing better with younger kids. Scooter was never socialized and told how to behave. Growing up with a 2,4,6, and 8 year old was pretty nerve wracking for a puppy.

Car rides are not scary anymore and cries to get in for a ride now. He is very active and loves to play in the fenced in yard where before he wasn’t sure what he was supposed to do. Scooter is being taught all his lessons he should have acquired when he was a puppy. People often think they can teach themselves and the perfect family with kids needs a dog. After realizing their mistake, Scooter made up his own rules to bark, guard the children, and chew on things he wasn’t supposed to.

He has come along way! Look at that sweet face!

  1. Kim,

I’m glad you’re showing interest in adopting a rescue dog, please see our Policies Page.

Adoption Fees: Unfortunately, we cannot facilitate adoptions free. In addition to love and attention, it takes money to care for our canine friends and get them ready to be welcomed into their forever homes! As such, there is a fee associated with adoption of a Miniature Schnauzer from MSPMSR. This fee is to cover the medical costs of altering, teeth cleaning, and other veterinary treatments the dogs may need. We will discuss the adoption fees once we do a phone interview.

If you have any futher questions please contact our Coordinator at pam@mspmsr.org

    Thank you.

I REALLY REALLY WANT SCOOTER FOR MY BESTEST BUDDY!! I DRIVE A TRUCK AND WOULD REALLY LIKE TO HAVE SOMEBODY TO WALK AND PLAY WITH. MY FAVORITE PART WOULD BE THE SNUGGLING!! I’VE HAD SEVERAL DIFFERENT DOGS AND THEY HAVE ALL BEEN SPOILED AND TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF. THE PROBLEM IS I DON ‘T HAVE $200 OR EVEN $100 THAT I CAN GIVE YOU FOR HIM. I HAVE THE SUPPLIES I NEED FOR HIM AND HE’LL ONLY GET THE BEST FOOD AND WATER FROM A BOTTLE. THIS IS HOW I’VE TREATED ALL MY “KIDS”. PLZ CONTACT ME. HE IS SOOOOOOOOOO PRECIOUS!!

Ha, what a cute story, convince Scooter that you’re not running after him and he comes back, saying “Hey why didn’t you chase me?”
