Zoey’s first trip to St. Francis

by Jeremiah on June 23rd, 2008

This is the day after Zoey was rescued.Today, we took Zoey out to my dad’s house in St. Francis, at the end of a dirt road. When we got there I let Zoey out of the car, without her leash. We heard my dad mowing lawn in the back yard, we walked around the side of the house and Zoey followed, we were met by my dad’s big golden retriever. Zoey’s tail perked up and she and he proceeded to say hi for the first time. Not at any time did Zoey seem scared or skittish, she followed us around the big back yard as if she’d done it a million times before. We met my dad who stopped mowing the tall grass and Zoey proceeded to introduce herself. I never thought my dad would have such a soft spot for animals, but he proceeded to talk baby talk to Zoey, who didn’t seem to mind one bit.

We proceeded to walk up the back deck stairs and Zoey walked right up with us, where we met my step mother and their other dog Sidney, who is a very toy boston terrier. Sidney proceeded to get way to excited and they did many circles around each other.

We proceeded to visit, and Zoey made herself comfortable inbetween Christine and I, laying down and relaxing, just happy to be near us. When we decided it was time to leave, she got up and back to the car we went. She got to ride the whole trip home on Christines lap, the favorite part, was most likely the cold air conditioning that blew over her as we drove home.

Zoey is coming out of her shell everytime I hear a story about her. The little scared 8 year old breeding girl is finally realizing that people are OK? She looks great and thank you for sharing this story with us. Prayers she gets a forever home that has the patients like her foster parents. Like many puppymill dogs she will be a very devoted companion!
