Abel, just one of the boys!
Saturday: A very friendly first encounter, Abel is not shy but he is a little timid. Loud noises or sudden movements startle him. If you talk to him in a stern voice he lowers his head. He craves attention and will stand next to you to be petted (but will not sit or lay next to you). Foster Mom got kisses on her arm after being gone a couple of hours!
Sunday: Abel is not very interested in food, treats, toys or playing yet. He walks very well on a leash (he knows who is boss). In fact, he makes his foster sister, Gracie, look like an amateur walker. He follows us around wherever we go. He ate all of his food at dinner – this is the first time since he came home with us!! A sure sign he is settling in nicely. We went on a short car ride to our softball game – the little kids there were sure excited to see two good looking schnauzers! Abel and his foster sister, Gracie, LOVED the attention from the kids.
Monday: First day of our “real” schedule (i.e. going to work and crating the fur kids) – Abel is very curious about everything. He is very calm and walks slow and steady around the house trying to figure out this new life. Gracie tries very hard to get him to play, but he just looks at her. He comes when you call him and the majority of the time if you ask him he will sit on command. He had an excellent “first” day and was excited to see us. We went and saw another fur friend (a cockapoo) named Abby and Abel was VERY curious about her; I would say at home Gracie is much more curious about Abel than he is of her. He sure liked Abby though!
Tuesday: Abel picked up a couple of different toys today! We were so excited to see him break out of his shell just a little more. He loves to be scratched behind his ears and he will even roll over on his back to get his belly tickled. He still will not sit in your lap, but he will lay next to you. He is still very curious and will follow us from room to room. He loves his crate (it is definitely his safe place) and will go in it to lay down even when we are giving him “free time” in the house. He has had no potty accidents inside – a very big feat for us!

What a wonderful place he found to learn new things. I hope him and Gracie become good friends. I think this is first that there is no accidents in a new house. You deserve a round of applause. Sounds like Able is coming along great! Thank you Gracie for letting your humans help another doggie!
