Here is a letter I received from Troy, Axel/Hudson’s new dad:

Hi Corri,
Hudson is doing so great!
He knows his name now and wags his tail every time you call him.
He now sleeps with us, and his other two brothers, and loves hanging his head over the foot of the bed to sleep.
Benny loves him and is constantly wanting to play with him.
Hudson has made Benny act like a puppy.
Alex still just accepts Hudson and Hudson leaves him alone.
Hudson also has discovered squeaky toys and loves to carry them around the house and squeak them all day.
He will sit in the sofa and squeak the toys nonstop for hours.
We are so lucky to have him. He is a wonderful addition to our family!

Learnings

Axel, with help from my friend’s sons, learned to sit on command last weekend. Tonight we worked on learning “down” and staying with both sits and downs. We are up to 20 seconds with sits. Not so well with downs…but since he just learned to do them, not a worry.

It is interesting training two dogs at once. Thankfully, Talis already knows the skills and just needs continued work. He is a good example for Axel, who wants to do everything just like Talis. What a cutie!

Axel at the Cabin

Axel had a very exciting couple of days at the cabin! He learned to ride in and eventually enjoy the pontoon and to put up with the life jacket. He was not overly interested in the fishing part of the trip but liked the wind in his face when we were moving. Exploring in the woods with Talis was fun.

Having to be on a cord, with Talis free to roam, was not~but I found an extension for the cord so he could go around most of the yard. He even got the chance to bark at a couple of deer that were walking in front of the porch in the middle of the night.

Axel week 2

Axel has been coming along nicely. He now comes to his name and follows me around like a shadow. He has decided that it is a great game to steal my super soft slippers. He likes to take naps on the breezeway couch with Talis, his foster brother. We are continuing to practice sitting and he is taking treats with a very soft mouth. He has decided that he likes his kennel and will actually open the door and go in on his own. Sometimes I think that I have misplaced him in the house, but no, he’s just blending into to rug in his kennel. What a cute, good boy.

He is letting strangers touch him as long as they are sitting down and he can come to them. The Twin Cities Miniature Schnauzer Club picnic was at my house on Sunday and Axel had a ton of fun running around with all the other little “kids” in the yard.

Today Axel spent time chasing Talis around the yard and they actually had a wrestling match and tug-o-war. We went to the park with some friends so all the dogs could walk. Axel did very well for presumably his first time out on a formal walk. Every day he gets more warmed up to us and seeks out attention. Today’s deal was putting his paw on me when he wanted attention.
