Hi Pam, I wanted to give you an update on puppy Benjamin who has been with us now for about 10 days. We renamed him to Simon as in Simon & Garfunkel, my husband’s favorite musical duo.

Simon has been adjusting well and knows his boundaries very well. So far, the only word that he really knows is “outside” which is probably the best one during these potty training times. He goes to the door and waits for us to go outside with him. He has had a couple accidents but is really very good for the most part and loves the yard so getting him to go outside isn’t a problem. He’s very good at getting up stairs but hasn’t mastered going down stairs yet. He looks at them intently though, knowing he will conquer them soon. He’s a great cuddler, we have shared many naps together.

We started puppy classes at the Canine College last week. After a hesitant start, he made new friends and is looking forward to going back. In fact, an adult mini schnauzer came in at the end for the next session and Simon immediately ran over to him and licked and jumped on the other mini schnauzer. I think that he knew it was one of him. He was so happy! I will send you paperwork once we’ve completed the classes. We will then be going to the beginner classes but I don’t think they start until the new year because they are just starting a session now and Simon isn’t ready for the beginner level yet.

We also went to the vet on Saturday and got his next round of puppy shots. The vet thought January for him to be neutered. I will get you paperwork for this most recent visit and we go back in a month for the last round.

I think that we will be bringing Simon in to you soon for a trim. The hair on his paws is growing very quickly and getting long.

Thanks so much for what you and the organization does for schnauzers. We feel very lucky to have gotten Simon!

Ben did the funniest thing this morning! I was in the shower and he was sitting on the floor crying because he couldn’t see me. I moved the shower curtain enough that he could see in but not enough so my floor would get soaked. Ben took that as an invitation. He got his front paws up on the edge and was hopping to get up and over. I lifted him up and held him. He thought the shower was great fun. Lapped at the sprays and didn’t flinch at getting wet. How un-schnauzerish of him. lol He is just too cute to handle :-)

I came home from school today to find that my little Houdini, Benjamin, had managed to escape the little fenced in area he calls home while I work.  The joke is he  landed in Jackson’s side instead of freedom. Hahaha little boy!
