Dining out in Florida

Our condolences goes out to Callie’s family. Callie went to rainbow bridge July 4th. We don’t know what happened, though she died within 5 hours and in loving arms of Lisa. Callie was one of the “C” dogs that MSPMSR took in one year ago. Callie already found her humans when she was fostered by one of our wonderful volunteers. Who knew she was in her forever home at that time. She had one glorious year going on trips to Florida. If anyone has seen a puppy mill dog change before your eyes it is amazing. Callie did just that and never left Lisa’s side. When we picked up the “C” dogs, they were all scared, in need of grooming, flea bitten, and neglected. Never being out of cage, they all didn’t understand what was happening. Stairs, outside, doorways, and loud noises were very frightful. Soon, a tail wag, a bark, and enjoying to be touched by a human, was soon accepted and rather enjoyable. We have heard from every single family that their puppymill dog was their true heart-dog and the experience is priceless. All the dogs rescued that day were very lucky and it was an honor to know them all. Callie is gone, though her memories can not be taken from us. Run with our other angels Callie! We love you!

Hi.  My name is Cassie and I am recovering from my surgery.  It was a big success.  The only bummer is this (snow)cone of shame that I am forced to wear.   A big, warm thank you (roo, roo) to my angel who covered the cost of the medical expenses.  I am doing very well and it is all because of you!  The Maplewood Veterinary Clinic did a great job.   I am eating good, sleeping all night and very well behaved.  One of my favorite activities is to sit on the sofa and help the foster mom read a book.  I am looking forward to recovering fully to get back to my long walks and squirrel chasing.   Check back in a few weeks for more info. 

I wanted to give an update on Callie to encourage people to adopt some of our wonderful dogs at MSPMSR. Callie  is the most wonderful, sweet, happy little dog we have ever had (and we have had 8 schnauzers). She is a joy to me and my family everyday. I cannot imagine my life without this sweet little character. She wakes us each morning with the excitement of a child on Christmas morning; she kisses, snuggles, wiggles under the covers and jumps on the other dogs to get them up.

 Thank you MSPMSR for giving me the privilege of adding Callie to our  family.  Happy Holidays and please adopt a rescue dog!

Hope all is well with you.

I wanted to give you an update on Carter.

As you probably would guess he is still a very shy little guy. He tries to be brave about a lot of things as he wants to participate with his other brothers but the length of time he was in the puppy mill will definitely take a long, slow process and allot of love.

He now only hides a few minutes under the kitchen table either in the morning or when he comes in from the outside.

He loves to run to the sectional and sit in the corner of it next to the pillows. That’s “HIS” place now.

He has learned a lot of the “basics” already such as when to eat, when to go outside potty and when to go upstairs to bed.

He LOVES the bed and will go right to sleep with the other dogs. In the morning (this is so cute) he loves to wiggle up next to you and kiss you. For some reason he is not afraid in the morning when he’s on the bed. He is so cuddly then!

He also went for his very FIRST walk on Sat with his brothers! He followed them throughout the neighborhood. We thought it was a huge accomplishment for him so early.

We are now working with him on sitting on our lap and not being so afraid when we pick him up.

Last night he sat with Craig for almost a half hour before he wanted to go back to his spot on the sectional.

His brothers, Benny and Hudson really love him. Benny especially has become his “Big Brother” and wants to always sleep right by him. Hudson of course wants to play with Carter but Carter isn’t ready for Hudson’s play yet.  Carter was fed up one day and growled at Hudson which kept him away for a day.

We took Carter to our vet on Sat to get his complete check up ,etc. The vet said he was a wonderful dog and everything looked great. He even sat still for his shot!

We love Carter so much. Thank you once again for everything.

Captain is the sweetest boy. He is also the most frightened animal I’ve ever met. We are working to rehabilitate him, mainly with massive doses of love and gentleness.It’s a challenge working with him. He is most comfortable in his crate, or under the furniture, so that’s where he spends most of his time. When we need to put him outside, he cringes, as until now he has not had good experiences with being removed from his crate.We try to handle him as slowly and gently as possible.  He doesn’t fully understand the concept of treats yet. He has taken bacon and chicken from our hands, but he’s a long way from any kind of training involving treats as rewards. His two biggest breakthroughs lately have been walking up the stairs on his own – whether to be with us, or to hide under the bed, I don’t know. He has also joined in with his foster doggy brother and sister in playing in the backyard. Mostly he likes to run laps, and play the ‘Don’t look at me’ game.  He stops to see if we are watching, and then when you look directly at him, he scampers off. Quite adorable. He has NEVER shown any sign of any kind of aggression, even fearful or defensive, towards us or the other dogs. Come meet him on Saturday!
